Conor Kirkegard among the best competitors in Green Wave wrestling history, carved a remarkable individual record while helping the team to impressive success in the South-West Conference, state and New England.
The litany of remarkable accomplishments achieved by the lanky lightweight included a 171-11 overall record. That ledger featured an 89-match win streak, 109 pins and the boast to never having been pinned during his Green Wave career.
During the regular season, Conor claimed many gold medals at prestigious invitational tournaments, often defeating some of the state’s and region’s best wrestlers along the way.
Conor won his weight class all four years at the SWC tournament, capturing all-SWC laurels each season and taking his bows as a senior as recipient of the league’s ‘Outstanding Wrestler’ and ‘Career Wrestler’ awards.
At the state level, Conor was up to the task. He claimed gold medals at the state class meet three times and earned two gold medals and a silver medal at state open meets.
He elevated his wrestling game still more to earn a gold medal and a fourth place in New England competition.
Conor’s incomparable contributions played an integral role as the Green Wave won four straight SWC championships, built a cumulative 81-4 team record, captured its first state class title and added three runner up finishes.
When Conor walked off the mat for the final time as a senior, he stood front and center among the very best of Green Wave wrestling’s many outstanding athletes.
